SKINCARE TIPS FOR AUTUMN

Categories: Seasonal Changes
Monday, March 13, 2017

What do we love about autumn?  It is important in this season to change your skincare products to protect your skin to the seasonal change.  The air is drier, so this can make the skin feel tight and dry, especially if you are dehydrated and you have spent the summer in the sun!  Redness of the skin will also increase and become more irritated.

But skin can feel hydrated and look sensational if you follow these tips”

Exfoliate

Exfoliation is the key to glowing skin. As we begin to mature, our natural ability to regenerate new skin cells slows down. This can cause surface build-up which can leave our skin looking congested, dry and dull. Therefore it is important to exfoliate 1/2 times a week.  This will remove dead skin cells and allow your products to penetrate more effectively, delivering the active ingredients into the skin.

Cacao Peeling Cream

Cacao Peeling Cream is a gentle creamy exfoliator  (smells like Ferrero Roche chocolate J) with cocoa and almond granules.

Don’t forget SPF

The cooler temperatures doesn’t mean you should stop using an SPF. Sun damage can occur all year long, so make sure to add a layer of sun protection to your daily beauty routine.

Sunfilm SPF 50

Sunfilm SPF 50 is a tinted sun cream packed with Juliette Armand’s own antioxidant ingredient, to not only protect the skin against the powerful sun’s rays, but prevents cell damage and photo ageing.

The Cause of Sagging Skin

SAGGING SKIN

Categories: Skin Types
Monday, March 13, 2017

As people grow older, they may find that their skin is not as firm and radiant as it once was. Sagging skin can have many different causes, and finding the right solution can make a huge difference to an individual’s physical appearance and self-confidence.

The good news is there are ways to help your clients regain their youthful glow!

Here are some facts about sagging skin to help your customers better understand the problem and the treatments that are available.

The causes of sagging skin

As if ageing isn’t hard enough with wrinkles, grey hair and cellulite already in the mix, life decided to throw us women another curveball and invite sagging skin the party! Why, you may ask?

According to LiveStrong.com, sagging skin is predominantly caused by ageing (surprise, surprise!) but it may also be triggered by a depleted supply of collagen and elastin (two essential components for taut skin) or the result of significant weight loss.

Most of these causes may be out of your control, but using the right skincare and salon treatments can help dramatically.

Products for sagging skin

Collagen and elastin are the major skin proteins.  They are responsible for skin firmness and elasticity, while they contribute to skin cell regeneration and restoration.  Building up the collagen and skin elasticity can be as simple as an effective Cosmeceutical serum and moisturiser.  An effective serum used daily with a moisturiser, will over a period of time replenish the collagen and elastin reserves.

Collagen Elastin Serum is a serum which replenishes the collagen and elastin reserves, retains moisture in the skin and increases skin moisture.    A serum will act as a carrier which allows the cream to “piggy back” the serum, taking the cream into deeper layers of the skin to work more effectively. Therefore each morning and night, as part of the skincare regime, apply serum, followed by cream.

Collagen Elastin Serum

Hydra Firming 24h Cream is based on the protein complex Milk Peptide.  It reinforces the connective tissues of the skin and maintains high levels of collagen and elastin.  Liftessence and Osilift are active ingredients which offer firming results.

The Truth about Acne

THE MYTHS ABOUT ACNE

Categories: Acne
Sunday, March 12, 2017

Acne is a common problem among teens and even mature adults – and probably responsible for many shed tears and sleepless nights and lack of confidence.
People will try every remedy in their desperate attempt to get rid of pimples, such as applying toothpaste, fresh fruit or even castor oil to the afflicted areas!
With so many acne myths out there, it’s important to know exactly what is going on with your skin!

Myth #1: It might be hereditary

According to the medical research, you can’t blame mum and dad for this one!
The Internet Health Library states that while some experts do acknowledge that acne tends to be more common in children of acne-afflicted parents, “acne is not an inherited disease in the medical sense of the word”.
It seems that getting acne is a game of luck – some children inherit it, while others escape scot-free.

Myth #2: It might have something to do with your diet

This myth is hotly contested. Some people believe eating chocolate or fatty foods can cause pimples, while others argue that there is no medical research to support the links between diet and acne.
To be on the safe side, dermatologists tend to advise people to eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables and follow a healthy diet, as this will help to improve overall skin health and wellbeing.
However, according to the British Skin Foundation, the cause of acne is physical: the result of excess skin oil and clogged pores. With the right products you can get the help for your skin and go on eating chocolate!

Myth #3: It might just get better on its own

Many people try to “wait out” bad acne, suffering from terrible sores and pimples for months if not years without getting help.
What they might not know is that acne doesn’t necessarily get better on its own – and if it does, there could be a long wait!

What is the best starting point for acne?

One of the best starting points for acne is to have an intensive salon peel, this will gently take away the dead skin cells which could be clogging the pores of the skin and this will allow the active ingredients of a good skincare brand to penetrate down the dermal level of the skin to start to detox, heal and repair.  Follow by using a good skincare regime morning and night.  (Try Juliette Armand 08 Acne Products)

The new Age of Anti-Age

THE NEW AGE OF ANTI-AGE

Categories: Anti Ageing, Solutions For ...
Sunday, March 12, 2017

If you love learning about ingredients in skincare products, then I have discovered two which are at the forefront of skin technology.

Whilst spending time in the research laboratory of the Juliette Armand Skin Care brand in Athens, I was astonished at the amount of extensive research that goes into formulating beauty products. The quality and precision of the pure raw ingredients used in the products have to be exact, as the right balance and harmony of ingredients need to deliver healthy amounts of nutrition and wellness to the skin cells. This will result in a hydrated, nourished and restored skin texture.

Have you heard about Lipoic Acid?

This is a potent antioxidant, 400 times more potent than vitamin E and C which is present on the skin. Lipoic Acid is known as the universal antioxidant, because it is capable of dissolving in water-phase and in oil-phase, which results in being readily absorbed from the skin.

Besides improving skin texture, Lipoic acid has many other health benefits.

Reduces oxidative stress in the body via powerful antioxidant activity.

  • Improves blood sugar levels.
  • Reduces blood pressure.
  • Reduces weight.
  • Prevents bone loss, possibly through anti-inflammatory effect.
  • Removes toxic metals from the body.

Have you heard of  EUK-134?

This very potent ingredient mimics the action of two natural enzyme, catalase and SOD. It protects skin tissue from toxic substances known as ROS [reactive oxygen species] ozone, hyper oxides and free radicals in general. It protects DNA from UV light and reduces UV induced erythema and prevents lipid peroxidation. It is capable of regenerating after the completion of its anti-oxidant action, so it is not consumed as time progresses. It was initially used as an anti-skin cancer drug.

The Top Three Causes of Wrinkles

TOP THREE CAUSES OF WRINKLES

Categories: Anti Ageing, Skin Types
Sunday, March 12, 2017

Today with the active use of social media and television, there is massive emphasis on looking younger!  We live in a baby boomer era, where the 50 years of age is the new 40, therefore we have to live up to this age in how we look.

Do women fear ageing, too right they do, for the woman with teenage daughters, she is faced daily with looking at their youthfulness and looks in the mirror at her fast maturing face, with new forming lines and wrinkles and she is desperately unhappy!

Now it is said that getting old is a rite of passage, a chance to experience what life has to offer and to see the world through wiser eyes. The problem is that with age, comes the unwanted wrinkles around those eyes, followed by lines forming on the forehead and around the lips!!  Are you with me, help is needed!

Let us face it, what women wants to age gracefully and their wise face to be filled by fine lines and wrinkles?  None, I hear you shout!

Fortunately at Juliette Armand we have a comprehensive range of beauty salon treatments and products to combat ageing.

Our industrious leader is an expert in their field as a Chemist, also that she is woman (lol) and lastly, that she is in her 60’s.  So she knows a thing or two about the ageing process!

Ioulia Armagou is her name and she herself was unable to find an adequate moisturiser, so decided to create her own, thus Juliette Armand was founded in 1992, she worked tirelessly in their own laboratory creating this anti-ageing range of Cosmeceutical products, then later adding a Paramedical range.

Ok back to the subject at hand, anti-ageing ok!

The question is often asked, at what age should I start a good daily skincare regime?  My answer to this would be, the earlier age you start with a basic skincare routine morning and night, the better.  You will treat the skin with what it needs every day and stave off those lines and wrinkles from forming.  So teach this to your daughters, a good age is around 16.  An even earlier age if they suffer from breakouts or acne.

Here are the top three causes of wrinkles – and therefore the top three activities to avoid!

Sun

How can something that made you look so youthful and golden when you were young (sun-kissed glow anyone?) cause such thick wrinkles as you age?

It seems gloriously unfair that sun exposure contributes to wrinkles, but it’s true. Exposure to UV light causes the skin to age faster because it damages connective tissue such as collagen.

This is why it’s so important to wear an SPF moisturiser or foundation every day, and protect your precious skin from the sun’s dangerous rays. Our Sunfilm tinted SPF 50 is perfect for everyday use.

Smoking

Looking for another reason to quit smoking? In addition to causing a range of health problems, smoking also contributes to the development of wrinkles, especially around the mouth.

The good news is, this is inspiring people to give up the nasty habit! A recent study by Curtin University found that young smokers are encouraged to quit smoking after being shown computer-generated images of what they would look like if they continued.  Need I add any more to this one!

Dehydration

Dehydration is a large contributing factor to wrinkles, we tend to mean dehydration of the skin, as opposed to the body. As people get older, their skin tends to produce less natural oils than usual, reducing its elasticity and ‘bounce’.

One way to counteract this is to replenish the skin on your face daily with a high quality serum and moisturiser and of course to drink a minimum of at least a litre of filtered water. It is also important to add that a good balanced diet of water rich foods, exercise a balanced lifestyle go towards helping your skin.

What is Skin Peeling?

WHAT IS PEELING?

Categories: Treatments
Sunday, March 12, 2017

Peels are a salon only treatment performed by a trained Beauty Therapist.

Simplistic answer is it involves applying a chemical solution to the skin to remove its outer layers. Depending on how much skin they remove and how deep they penetrate will depend on the type of peel used, its strength and how long it is left on.

There are three types of peel: Light, medium and deep.

These have varying percentages of active ingredients and different PH levels.

What really matters when it comes to peels is their PH level. This indicates how deep the peel will penetrate into your skin and how much irritation you will get. The thing to remember is; the lower the PH, the deeper the peel.

Light Peels

Light peels are the gentlest type of peels available, they only remove the top layer of the skin, known as the epidermis, and give your skin an instantly brighter look as well as a smoother, more even texture. They can be used to minimise fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, mild acne scarring, age spots and dry or flaking skin. They are usually made from alpha hydroxy or beta hydroxy acids, known as AHAs and BHAs and include glycolic acid, lactic acid and salicylic acid.  These types of peels use active ingredients to penetrate and deliver anti-oxidants and vitamins deep into the skin encouraging the new cells to grow stronger and healthier. A course of between six and 10 treatments is usually recommended to achieve the best results. Superficial peels do not hurt, you only feel a slight tingling or stinging sensation, and have virtually no recovery time. You can be a little bit pink afterwards and may get some mild flaking of the skin.

Medium Depth Peels

Medium depth peels give more dramatic results than light peels. Usually derived from TCA (trichloroacetic acid), they penetrate deeper in to the skin and can be used to treat sun damage, pigmentation and wrinkles. The downside of medium peels is that you will have a longer recovery and more side effects. You may also feel more discomfort during the treatment than you would with a superficial peel including burning and stinging, which can last for 30 minutes to an hour after treatment. You may want to hide yourself away for a few days following a medium peel as your face can become swollen, pink and itchy following treatment and you will get more ‘peeling’ of the skin than you would with a superficial peel. You can also get patches of brown and white skin on your face during the healing process and in rare cases you can get scarring from medium depth peels. Generally recovery takes around a week.

Deep Peels

Deep peels are the strongest type of chemical peel available and can achieve amazing results for sun damage, scarring and deep lines and wrinkles but be prepared to look quite scary after your treatment. They usually use carbolic acid (Phenol peels) or high strength TCA to penetrate the deeper layers, or dermal layers, of the skin. However this type of peel is painful and can take months to fully recover from. Your skin will be very red and feel almost like it is sun burnt after the procedure. Although you will heal in one to three weeks the redness can still be visible for months after the treatment but the results of the peel are long lasting. The side effects of deep peels can look quite horrific. Your whole face will be swollen for a couple of days and will then scab. You will also get a lot of peeling and your skin may be quite itchy. For some people it can take up to two weeks before they want to go out in public

Hyaluronic Acid

THE ANTI-AGE NUTRIENT

Categories: Anti Ageing, Treatments
Sunday, March 12, 2017

Hyaluronic acid is widely used in skin care creams, injectables and supplements. This magic ingredient is a gel- like water holding molecule that is the space filler and cushioning agent in all people. HA acid cushions joints, nerves, hydrates skin and hair and fills the eye.

Almost half of the body’s Hyaluronic Acid is located in the collagen of skin. Hyaluronic Acid helps retain over several hundred times its weight in water within the cells, making it an excellent hydrator and moisturiser.  It works by attracting moisture to the skin and locking it in, binding it to the underlying cellular structure, thus it increases volume, plumps up wrinkles and creases and helps smooth the surface of the skin.

Uses of Hyaluronic Acid are wide and in skin care creams it is considered to be more important than collagen. HA acid is mostly used in anti-ageing products and cosmetic procedures. It is naturally destroyed by the body, so it needs to be used regularly.

Other uses and benefits of using Hyaluronic Acid are to help ease joint pain especially in the knees. After eye surgery HA acid can help lubricate and heal eye tissue. Gum Disease can benefit also from HA acid as it is an important connective tissue component in the gums helping with the regeneration of fresh healthy gum tissue. In a nutshell HA acid can heal, lubricate, moisturise, improve muscular strength and increase mental alertness.

A good Hyaluronic Acid depends largely on the brand you buy, but a lower weight molecule is better to use as it will penetrate much deeper and is absorbed far more efficiently by the skin than a larger molecule would.

 Chronos Paramedical Treatment

The Chronos, Greek word for “Time” is a 10 x Paramedical treatment program which is available in select beauty salons.  It is the alternative for dermal fillers.

It is perfect for anyone who doesn’t choose to go down the path of injectables, or possibly wants to address the overall texture and hydration of their skin complimenting with injectables.

The Chronos Therapy treatment uses their own patented active ingredients, complimenting the latest in cutting edge technology to combat signs of ageing.  The Chemists who produced this treatment have been in the beauty industry since 1992 and have been using ingredients which other companies have only just introduced!  So rest assured, these people know a thing or two about anti-ageing that’s for sure!

This treatment will give unbelievable overall results in the texture of the skin, whilst increasing the collagen production by up to 382% over a four week period! Skin is positively glowing after this treatment.

Each of the sessions goes through a series of peeling, serums and masks in a luxurious, relaxing treatment lasting 1 hour and 10 minutes.

CLEANSING. This removes all traces of make-up, dirt and grime from the face.

PEELING. Glycolic and salicylic acid chemically exfoliates the skin removing dead skin cells and promoting cell regeneration.

HYDRA SYSTEM. A serum and rubber like mask is applied to the whole face, covering everything other than my nostrils. (only if the client is comfortable with covering the eyes and lips otherwise these will not be covered) The mask enhances the skin’s water reserves.

ANTI AGEING SYSTEM. This stage stimulates the production of collagen and elastin which are extremely important for skin rejuvenation. This is done using another serum and creamy mask which is massaged into the skin, for ultimate relaxation.

ANTIOXIDANT SYSTEM. This contributes to antioxidant fortification of the skin against environmental impurities, preventing premature ageing using a serum and cream. These products are high in A Lipoic acid which is well known as the most powerful antioxidant ingredient.

The entire treatment is 1 hour and 10 minutes at the end of each session, the client will leave the salon with skin that is glowing, dewy and definitely looking at least five years younger.

A course of 10 treatments over five weeks is recommended for best results.

There are three retail products, Antitox Hydra serum, Wrinkle Correct Cream and Wrinkle Filler.
